Leaving or losing your job
Fixed-term jobs
Employment Relations Act 2000, s 66
If your job is covered by a fixed-term agreement, the job will end when the agreement says it ends – for example, on a specific date or when a particular project ends.
There must be a genuine reason for the job having a fixed term (see “Different types of employment agreements and arrangements / Fixed-term agreements” in this chapter). If there’s not a genuine reason, you may be able to bring a personal grievance for unjustified dismissal (see the chapter “Resolving employment problems”).
