Civil/family legal aid
What happens if civil/family legal aid isn’t granted
How will I know if I’ve been refused civil/family legal aid?
Legal Services Act 2011, ss 17, 51, 52
The Legal Services Commissioner must inform the applicant, in writing, if their application for civil/family legal aid is unsuccessful. Applicants have the right to ask the Legal Services Commissioner to reconsider the decision. If that doesn’t change the decision, they can then appeal to the Legal Aid Tribunal. (See below, “Challenging a civil/family legal aid decision”.)
