Dealing with discrimination and bullying
What can I do if I’m being harassed for being trans?
Human Rights Act 1993, s 21 (1)(a),(m)
Harassment is illegal, regardless of your gender or sex. As well as this, the law protects you from discrimination on the basis of your sex. This includes being trans, non-binary, intersex and takatāpui.
If you’re being harassed, or made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you can complain to your workplace, school, or the police. There are organisations who can help you make a complaint. For contact details of these organisations, see: “Where to go for more support” at the bottom of this page.
