This FAQ covers legal information for people impacted by a natural disaster or severe weather event. Initially a response to Cyclone Gabrielle in early 2023, we are updating this resource to keep it up to date for folks affected by other events, including earthquakes, floods and storms.

If you’ve been affected by a natural disaster, it can be hard to know what information you need around things like insurance, repairs and the financial support available. You might have to find temporary accommodation, or replace important documents that have been lost or damaged. This FAQ brings together practical advice and information to support you getting back on your feet. It also has information about your rights if your job, home or childcare arrangements have been impacted by a natural disaster or severe weather event.
