When can my employer fire me?
Your employer can’t just “give notice” to dismiss you for no reason, even if your employment agreement says they can do this. They must have a good reason and they must also follow a fair process when dismissing you.
Fixed-term jobs
Employment Relations Act 2000, s 66
If your job is covered by a fixed-term agreement, the job will end when the agreement says it ends – for example, when the project ends, or when the person you’re covering for comes back from parental leave.
