What are the national care standards?
The national care standards sets out that every child in care should be treated in a way that lets them be well and do well. It also sets out the support that should be given to caregivers who care for tamariki. Oranga Tamariki also provide a child-friendly statement of rights that tamariki can access to know their rights while in a care and protection residence.

What is covered in the child statement of rights?
The statement of rights is a child-friendly resource that lets tamariki know their rights while in care. Some of the information that it contains is what happens when you go into care, the role of a social worker and what your rights are during care including if you have to move while you are in care.
